York
We're based in York and work across the city – from the terraced streets inside and just outside the walls to the suburbs that ring the centre. York's housing is a real mix: Georgian and Victorian townhouses, long rows of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, inter-war semis, post-war estates and newer developments. That means every kind of roof, from Welsh slate and clay pantiles to flat-roofed extensions and dormers.
A large part of the city is covered by conservation areas, and many buildings are listed. If that applies to your home, our heritage and Yorkshire stone roofing page explains what to think about before roof work starts.

York suburbs
- Acomb
- Dringhouses
- Fulford
- Heworth
- Huntington
Acomb and Dringhouses, to the west and south-west, have a wide mix of terraces, semis and post-war housing – lots of concrete and clay tiled roofs, plus flat-roofed garages and extensions. Heworth, to the east, has many Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, where slipped slates, chimney flashings and rear-extension flat roofs are common jobs. Fulford to the south includes older properties within a conservation area alongside later housing. Huntington, to the north-east, has a large amount of post-war and modern housing as well as an older village core.
Villages around York
- Haxby
- Strensall
- Bishopthorpe
- Copmanthorpe
- Poppleton
The villages around York combine older cottages and farm buildings – often with pantile, slate or occasionally stone roofs – with plenty of more recent housing. We regularly get asked about the same things here as in the city: leaking extension roofs, ridge tiles, valleys and storm damage. Haxby and Strensall lie to the north of the city; Bishopthorpe and Copmanthorpe to the south and south-west; and Upper and Nether Poppleton to the north-west.

Nearby market towns
- Tadcaster
- Selby
- Malton
- Pocklington
We also take on work in the towns within reach of York – Tadcaster to the south-west, Selby to the south, Malton to the north-east and Pocklington to the east. These towns have their own historic centres and conservation areas as well as modern housing.
